Hey,

I got a AMD Phenom II x4 955 last night using the stock heatsink and fan for the time being. The CPU Usage is 2% and according to coretemps it's: 39C. Is that alright? Everest says it's 35 but I don't know which one to believe to be honest.

While I'm at it, can anyone recommend me a new cooler for the CPU?

Thanks,

i would go titan fenrir or true .i have fenrir and it beats a lot of the dearer coolers like the h50. stock cooler temps fine.

also remember about your case some of the big coolers might not fit in smaller cases cause they are big.

Idle temps are pretty meaningless if you have auto fan control enabled.

Under 100% load on all cores (say Prime Blend, IBT, S&M etc), AMD list the maximum operating temperature as 62°C. If you're regularly going over 55°C or find the noise unacceptable I would look at better cooling.

AMD list the maximum operating temperature as 62°C.
thats the tcase temp not core temp.

also AMD says to monitor the overall temp, not core temp

Dear Gareth,

Correct, as long as you are within the voltage and temperature guidelines you are ok. The temperature that should be monitored is the overall CPU temperature, not the core temp.

Yep - 62°C - overall CPU temperature (which is what I meant). I keep forgetting about the individual core temps as I can't monitor them on my (unlocked) CPU.

I don't like the term tcase as it makes me think 'case temp'. I'm not letting the inside of my PC tower get to 60 degrees...
