Phenom II X4 955BE running too hot and Idling at 50 degrees celcius?

I purchased this OEM CPU from overclockers recently and have just installed this CPU onto an Asrock 870 Extreme3 v2.0 motherboard using a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 dual-fan CPU cooler with GC-Extreme thermal compound.

I have built and installed other systems in the past but this is by far the hottest running CPU I've had and it is now idling at 51 degrees Celsius as I'm typing this.

The CPU is running at default settings (3.2ghz/1.288v) and most of my other components i.e motherboard, hdd, even the GPU is idling around 35 degrees Celsius so I don't think airflow is an issue.

Generally my past CPUs have idled around the low 30s and peaked at around 55 degrees using the same Noctua NH-U9B SE2 but this x4 955 idles in the high 40s and goes well over 62 degrees - which I believe is the thermal safe limit for the CPU?

I have doubled checked and reseated the heat sink many times and I applied other thermal pastes but the temps are generally still on the high side.

I have contacted OC'uk and expressed my cencerns and they are willing the test the CPU but they don't think the CPU is faulty.

Do Deneb CPUs generally run this hot with a decent aftermarket cooler or is my one faulty and should I ask for a replacement?

Thanks

What monitoring software are you using? try realtemp

I'm using both HWMonitor & Core Temp to measure my temps and they are both showing the same temps.

The heatsink is warm to touch when the CPU is on idle and when its on prime95, it is defintely hot to touch so the temps from the monitoring software appears to be accurate.

I just need to find out why my CPU is running hot @ stock and what is causing it to be running hot.

Could it be the motherboard?

Somthing sounds definitely wrong there idling at those temps.I will be fitting the said same Cpu tommorow with the stock cooler, il post back in this thread with the temps im getting. Are you sure the cooler is making full contact with the Cpu and the fan is running up to speed?

Is the temp in BIOS accurate?

Mine is showing 47c but in Windows, it idles at 25-30 (H60 with Scythe Gentle Typhoon fan)

I've just gone into the BIOS again here are my readings:

The temp starts off at 52 degrees and within a space 2 minutes, climbs upto and over 62 degrees the heatsink is quite hot to touch at this point so I'd say the mobo temp readings are accurate.

I'm pretty certain that there is full contact between the heatsink and CPU as that was the first thing I checked when I discovered the high temp readings.

As I said id post back in this thread.Ive just fitted one of these Cpu,s with the standard cooler on an Asus board, from a quick test im getting 30-35 degrees in idle and around 45 loaded in games at 1.4v.

Those are pretty decent temps from just the stock cooler and it would make more sense for mine to be better or if not at least equal to a stock cooler - thanks for that.:)

Whats the airflow like in your case i.e. what temps are the rest of your components running at?

Is there a chance you stress the cpu using prime95 to see what the maximum temp you get from the stock cooler?

I've found that the Asus monitor reports lower temps than coretemp and the like, it seems to even out or at least get closer under duress, though.
