phenom or quad intel?

how long can you wait?? are you able to wait to see what the new phenoms?

however atm the intel q6600 is a very good processor.

lol, with the system in your sig, I wouldn't say you NEED a system upgrade. Pure waste of money if you ask me :)

depends on what he's doing, a quad can be twice as fast as a dual in some areas.

Under the IHS, the Phenom Quad Core is a single Quad Core die. Whereas the Core 2 Quad, consists of two dual core dies linked by FSB. It's not really a reason to buy a Phenom over a Core 2 Quad though.

As others say, sit tight until 45nm Quads are released.

Yorkfield isn't a real quad. It's two wolfdales in one package. We're not getting a 'real' Intel quad until Q4 2008 - Nehalem which'll just be an extreme edition anyway so let's just call it Q1/2 '09 for the consumer ones shall we?

Anyways, as Phenom has just proven to us, 'native' multicore is a waste of effort. Sure if we do multi-die approaches for ages it won't scale well because of bandwidth and size limitations but for now Kentsfield and Yorkfield'll do us well until Agena can get off its ass and stop being mediocre.

Why get a new CPU?

I just got one of these bad boys with a Maximus Extreme ad DDR3. It sits happily at 420 x 9 without chaning any settings apart from the cpu volts.

Its simply an awesome cpu

the Phenom isn't too bad. its not far from the q6600. but if u already have a intel q6600 cpu and motherboard theres no point changeing it yet. just overclock it
