I know its rather hot at the moment, but because my cpu is so close to my 4870x2 its been getting rather warm. I also read today that the max temperature of the 9950 is 62C ..... and earlier today (before i purchased an aircon unit :p), i noticed the cpu temperature was 61

I was wondering whether there any significant differences in temperatures between my 9950 and the 940?

Cheers

phenoms II run a lot cooler and faster.

my 940 OC'ed to 3.7ghz + a Thermalright Ultra-120 A + fan, idles around 40c, under load 52c, it looks high but its due to the very hot weather. when the weather is cool it idles around 30c, under load 38c.

My Phenom II idles ~4'c above ambient, and at the speeds and volts I run it thats awesome.

Miles better than the original Phenom which lets face it, should never have been released. :p

Hmmmmm interesting,

So i bought a 940, installed it yesterday and its running hotter that the 9950 :(
Currently idling at 60

Played TF2 last night and it was running at 65 :/

You haven't installed it right then. Re apply the thermal paste and reseat the cooler.

II X3 720 BE @ 3.4GHz on 1.456 volts.

Ambient room temperature: 28C
CPU core temp @ idle 34C

What paste did you use / how did you apply it? Perhaps extremely bad airflow?

what cooler u using? and what is your case cooling like? also where is your system? (e.g under the desk or on a table.)

Mines running Overclocked @ 29c idle, 39c load with the Arctic Freezer 64.

Thats about 10c less than my old Core 2 Duo with the Arctic Freezer 7, very impressed.

I have a Noctua NH-C12P Cooler and used Arctic Silver 5

I have quite an old case - original Antec Sonata, I have been thinking about getting a new one with plenty of fans (seeing how quiet Noctua ones are), Sonata's dont have much in the way of cooling, you supposed to be able to put a fan in the front but ive never figured out how or where.

PC is under a desk, had to take to cover off due to room getting very warm (loft conversion) and i currently have a turbo fan pointing at it :/ ... oh and an AC running behind me which is telling me that room temperature is 28C, doesnt feel like it, went down stairs and it boiling down there!

I think the temperature has a lot to do with my fx card which is about an inch away from the cooler and usually idles around 70 :( But i will try a re-seat anyway, not easy with these big coolers - esp. those bloody fan clips!

if the case doesn't have much cooling then thats the main problem

hi guys if your quoting temps its handy to state if you have c'n'q enabled and what volts your vcore is at. your cpu-nb volts is a lil important too

curently running at 1.15v 1800mhz c'n'q naturally. idle at 43c

and thats with a scythe ninja v1 with 2 1900rpm fans

Re-seated it yesterday, although i was shattered and couldn't be bothered to clean it, and it dropped to 50C idle.
Today i spent hours trying to find my cleaning solution but couldn't.... so out of desperation used ....ahem.... Jack Daniels  which seemed to pull off an awful lot of greese :p

Still quite warm in my room - around 28C, but cpu is now idling at 40C and i just tried ocing it using the AMD Overdrive thing and its idling at 43C @ 3.6Ghz :D

Can't complain ;) ... Could do with a new case though, one that can take more than one fan would be nice!

Thanks for all your replies and the recommendation of this cpu, very impressed with it now, running stable even while overclocked. Never had a cpu quite this easy to overclock :D Couldnt do a thing with the 9950.

Temperatures a lot lower and id like to give a big thank you to my good friend Jack Daniels \o/ for cleaning my cooler ;)
