Ok I THINK I have settled on getting AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9950 2.60GHz Black Edition for my new build(still not 100% decided but pretty sure it meets my needs)
I would like your input as I'm fairly new to this, what am I looking for in a motherboard for this,I dont want an all singing all dancing MOBO and then find I never use half the options, but I want something that will maximise the cpu, have good cooling and Overclocking abilities, but wont become obselete next month ,
I'm not going for massively Oc'd,but I Probably will up it minimaly
It will be a games machine mainly

I'm also like most people trying to keep costs down by not spending out all at once,so if there are any with built in graphics possibly capable of dx10 that may be an advantage until I can afford a new card, also I may start with slower ram and upgarde when I can afford it to help with costs

I know nothing about the MOBO's so not sure if they are just mix and match or if the Mobo compliments the CPU

Maybee you guys in the know might help

Let me know what you advise, thanks

You cant link to competitors, read the FAQ

Also buy intel.

Sorry I was looking for forum rules to see but could'nt find em,did'nt think of FAQ :(

I had thought intel, but have been weighing it up and reading verious posts and tests all week, and have sort of decided on AMD,is there a particular reason behind your thoughts ie you personally have found them more usuable ect ?
I would like your advise ?

Shh Intel people! :p wait for the boards with the 750 Southbride to come out, there might be a few floating around the old interweb for sale but not on OCUK. Personally id go for the ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe.

Whats the budget by the way?

tbh to many intel people here saying get intel,

amd phenom are fine. just get a motherboard with a sb750 chipset if u wanna overclock a lot. if your not into overclocking much just get a MSI K9A2 Platinum or Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3...

But hold on a bit longer & wait for the new phenom deneb cores & then laugh at the intel fanbois

Lol,yeah read a bit about them, but I am on a budget and for the moment looking to spend around the £300-£350 but that has got to cover mobo, cpu and ram really,I would guess that the deneb phenoms will be pricey as the new boys on the scene, and may push the 9950 priced down a bit to

people recommending Intel CPU's are not 'fanbois', at present Intel cpu's in his price range are better to get the most performance for his money...

'Unlike the 790GX models there are no graphics connectors as the Asus doesn’t have integrated graphics.'

Unfortunately I think I need in built graphics :(

You are far better off with dedicated graphics if you can save up a few extra £££s, try looking for a used 8800GT, you might pick one up for £60

Any reason why?

But if you really want in built grapics get the Asus M3A78-T its pretty much the same as the M3A79-T but with grapics

Is MSI not a good make then ?
I read a lot of reviews that give it top marks and basicly say you wont get better for your money ?, the one I'm thinking about is the Platinum model

MSI DKA790GX PLATINUM

I have had nothing but trouble with the last 2 MSI, AMD boards i got. I had to buy them as they where the cheapest (and i was on a budget) at the time. Im sure the better models wont have as much trouble, but i been put off them for life now lol.

Ok kewl thanks for the heads up
The reviews I have been trawling through are good, the odd one with faults but overall I would guess as a percentage 85-90% good
