Until now, I have been under the assumption that The Phenom will work with any AM2 motherboard, with a simple bios flash. The AM2+ will only add the ability for the motherboard to turn off the unused cores.

However, AMD were saying the same about Socket 1207F, but it turns out not all boards can take the Quad Opteron.

Does anyone know whether all AM2 will defiantly support the quads when they finally get here.

The Opterons will be on a different socket, much the same as the 940 Opterons were.

The desktop quads will be backwards compatible with AM2 boards, tho you'll lose a few things like HT 3.0.

The quad core AM2+ version is still due out in November as far as I'm aware. Everything else has slipped to Q1/Q2 next year.
