Hey OCUK,
I was planning on going Intel Haswell but the Missus kicked up a stink at me wanting to ***** £300 on a CPU/MB.
I managed to get a cheap 1090T which is the maximum cpu my current MB will support and figured I could easily achieve a 3.8 clock by just bumping the multiplier but I am having untold problems.
First up full specs:
Phenom X6 1090T BE
ARTIC Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
GA-MA78LMT-US2H
4 x 2GB of Corsair XMS3 1600mhz
Be Quiet L7 530w
GTX 650
TBS Dual DVB-T2 card
100GB OCZ Vertex
SATA drives for storage
I threw the cpu in at default voltages and it runs fine @ stock and temps are acceptable ~20 idle ~50 Full Load
(ambients are pushing it that high, 23 degrees today here
CnQ, C1E, Spread Spectrum,Turbo Core etc all disabled in BIOS
Trying to up the multiplier requires more vcore to get stable but then temps become a huge issue.
after playing around for a while I managed to get it fully stable and am now running phenomtweaker using just 2 P-States
(P0 = 16x 200@ 1.2125 cpu vid and 1.1750 cpu-nb vid)
(P4 = 8x 200 @ 0.95 cpu vid and 1.1750 cpu-nb vid)
Idle only uses about 30w
and running 1.6ghz means I only enter P0 state when gaming/rendering etc, using my sys as a PVR and just general browsing never lifts it out of P4.
One thing I noticed, if I enable turbo core in the BIOS it does not work (tested P95 small FFT and just 1 thread) but only x16 and not x18 multiplier.
The option is also greyed out in phenomtweaker, strange because this is a 1090T
So, do I play around trying to squeeze a few hundred mhz out of it or just be happy with the undervolt and low noise/power consumption?
I do not want to go down the FSB OC road as it is a **** board and I doubt the VRM's are up to much
