Tried logging in to Steam today for a session of TF2, hang on a minute, why's it asking for my login details, I had the remember checkbox ticked...

Seems as if someone had hijacked my account, which is weird, since I checked my SteamID page on the Steam community webpage and nothing was changed there, neither did it seem there was anyone who had logged in since I was last on judging by the last online timestamp.

Got me wondering how they'd got access though, as I've double-checked all my other sensitive accounts and so far nothing seems to be compromised; in the process of moving around all my passwords and keeping closer tabs on things just to be sure. So much for thinking I had a rather secure connection :(

Kudos to Steam support though, sent off a ticket with all the relevant information to verify that I was the owner of the account and had a reply in 2 hours notifying me all my details were reset! Now I'm just glad it wasn't lost for good (since any kind of cheating = perma-ban, hijacked or not) and I don't have to shell out for the entire list of games again :D

So remember, you're always at risk, even when you think you're safe :p

Did you try your password again? Steam on my PC sometimes does that with login details.

I must've tried a dozen times in total, between the Steam login and the Steam community website. No dice. I do use the same password in a couple of other places which is a little unwise I know, but I tested logging in on those and they worked fine.

i got this yesterday :P

Funnily enough i was in one of the same groups as him and he had 20 odd hours on TF2, since when do steam employees use the same accounts for work and play and have people on their friends list?

best one of these i got even put a link to the steam security page in his post, on the page in size 24 yellow letters "Steam will never contact you via Your friends list" :D

I would suggest upping the strength of your password i.e. has upper and lower case letters, numbers and at least 2 other characters. I do that with all of my passwords now and have never had a problem with them. Ironically the one I had a problem with recently was my ebay account, which was just before I switched it to a strong password :P

lol this used to be funny on runescape, get people with fake admin names trying to get your password, just laughable.

also on runescape it was fun to tell people that if you drop an item, press alt + f4 it duplicates it, they drop it, log off and wa la you have a new pressie ! was funny but you had to find really stupid people for it to work :)

Love how the page starts with - NEVER TELL ANYONE YOUR PASSWORD.. then 5 lines later.... PLEASE TYPE YOUR USERNAME/PASSWORD lol....

Hmm....

It does highlight the weakness in storing multiple games with a single account, i have s fair amount of change stored in mine as i really like the idea of having all my games available for download.
