Phillip Schofield comes out as gay

I think everyone saying 'who cares' is missing the point.

The interest mostly isn't in the fact that Schofield's gay, it's in the empathy for his emotional journey.


That and an excuse to watch more Holly Willoughby.

Interesting point also made by someone above, being that he's just become a lot harder to sack for ITV.

Cheating on your spouse is still (just about) frowned upon though, which I guess was partly your point.

The gravity of a given story scales with how well known someone is, as the more well known they are the more money the media make from the story.

If I for example came out as gay, it might make a Facebook wall and end there.

Whereas Schofield is known by every middle-aged woman and 80s child in the land.
