Does anyone know what the difference is between the 200W6CS and the 200W6CS/05 ?

And which version does OCuK stock? I read on these forums that the 05 is the UK version and the 00 is the European equivalent, but with different plugs?

I assume when it does haven't a number at the end it's the 00 meaning the European version, but the thing i find strange is that the 200W6CS/05 is priced higher than the 00 Equivalent - and in some cases £40 higher? Makes me wonder are they exactly the same, specifically the response time and contrast ratio? and looks like they do sell both versions in this country.

I've checked other retailers, most of them say 8ms, however in most of the contrast ratio says 600:1, im hoping this is an error but it appears on many other retailers, isn't it meant to be 800:1 like it states on the Philips website? I thought they discontinued the 16ms version? or am I misreading things as i can only see one version of this monitor on their web site.

I queried this with Philips a while ago and they said:

The model 200W6CS/05 is only sold in the UK 200W6CS/00 in the rest of Europe, and that has something to do with the power supply, that is all.

Be wary of the specs and when buying from other sites. The 200W6CS used to use a 16ms rated S-IPS panel, and had a contrast ratio of 600:1. Then Lg.Philips updated the panel they provided, and Philips then updated the spec of their screen in line with this to 8ms and 800:1. OcUK stock the 8ms version, but some sites may well still have old stock. Just be wary of it.

i gather that the panel is actually the same but just updated giving a 800:1 contrast ratio and a 8ms response time? say in the likelihood i do get the older stock, is the difference going to be that great that it will be noticeable? and is there a way i can tell which one i have got when i get it? cheers baddass for the reply.

well LG.Philips introduced their ODC (Overdriving circuitry) for the latest update of the LM201W01 panel used and so response time should benefit. The 16ms edition is quite old now, and so there should be some improvements from the newer panel. I don't think there's any good way of checking, but i'd suggest that as long as a shop doesnt have really old stocky, you would be ok receiving the 8ms edition. OcUK certainly have this version i am told :)

putting the part numbers aside, is this monitor any good for gaming? particularly First Person Shooters, and what about movie playback? I also do a lot of web design.. so hopefully this monitor is good for all round purposes... unless there is another monitor worth recommending, the NEC is a great monitor, but it's way over my budget, is the VX2025wm just as good? although i know there is no 1:1 pixel mapping, does the quality of games without WS support display really badly?

I've had the Philips from here for a few months now & have no complaints at all :)

Lovely screen, great at FPS, & cracking value..

Well i've just ordered this monitor and should be receviing it Monday, hopefully it will be as good as i hope to be... right now running a 17" CRT monitor, the strain is intense....

glad to see you've ordered one. To answer the questions above it is a good all round screen, yes. The Viewsonic would also have been a good choice but the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping may be a problem as you say. The main issue with that is that 4:3 format games would be stretched to fill the screen which makes them look disproportionate

Cheers Baddass, there is one problem though... the disc that came with the monitor, i can't seem to install the drivers for the monitor... i think it might not be x64 compatible. Therefore i cant test the speakers or the USB ports. :( do you know if there are any x64 drivers available? downloaded some drivers off the Philips website as well but no luck...

anyway here's a pic of the monitor:

You need to install drivers to use the speakers/usb ports? Whats the point in that. Surely the "Driver" cd is just to allow you to give your monitor a name in device manager :P

sorry i meant just the USB ports, speakers work fine - just tinny but thats expected, but cant seem to test the USB ports, don't recognise anything, im assuming it needs the drivers on the CD, but it keeps saying that i don't need any better drivers than the ones i have already..

My old LG L1710B, and my new Dell 2007WFP both had/have USB ports on them, and none required drivers, you need to plug the upstream cable in to your monitor and connect it to a spare USB port on your computer.

I see... ok it worked, cheers mate, nice though it would have been better having 2 usb ports rather than one... :)

Mine only has 2 on the side, but it has 2 underneith with all the other connections, maybe you have some under there. Although one is all you really need, saves you bending down/reach behind your pc to plug in a flash drive :D

it's actually fine, being on the side is actually the best place to put it, right now its being used to connect my pc to my phone...

really happy about this monitor... ;)
