Phone on new provider - updates?

Just bought an HTC Radar on payg with Orange. I've sim unlocked it and plan to use it with GiggGaff (O2).

I'm wondering if it will still get updates to WP7 as essentially it's still an Orange phone (with their id and firmware) but sim unlocked and running under O2?

I guess I'm reliant on Orange to release the updates as they feel fit but do I need to have one of their sims in the phone to get it?

No, you don't need to have their SIM for updates to work. Your phone doesn't even know which network it's on honestly, it just knows it as a number. It might reset the APN on a new firmware but that's about all that would be an issue.

If that was true wouldn't say all HTC Desires get updated at the same time?

I thought my sim free Desire got updated first and then each individual company (Orange, O2 TMobile etc) decided if and when "their" phones got updated.

Because they had branded firmware and it had nothing to do with the network technically?
