Phone Problems

Hi all,

I got an HTC Touch pro a few weeks ago, less than a month ago probs. Around a week ago, I was losing screen backlight. The screen was nearly all black, meaning I couldn't see anything. I don't really know how to explain :P

It seems like the phone struggles to get light. When locked, normally the light is dimer, and its fine like that, but when I press unlock, it goes all black, phone is still switched on though. When unlocked via the power button, I get a milli second of light until it turns nearly all black.

I NEVER dropped the phone and always used the official charger supplied with the phone. I never removed battery when phone was in use, so have no idea what is causing the problem.

Maybe its a faulty battery?

Regardless, contacted the seller (got it from eBay) and he said they accept returns in less than a week since purchase, and that it had a 12 month manufacturer warranty. Problem is that there is no HTC manufacturer in Malta (where I live) so I'm pretty much stuck.

- Should I keep forcing the seller to send me a replacement?
- Should I contact Italian HTC?
- Should I take it to a local phone repair (but I don't want to pay for a manufacturer fault :/ )

Any ideas guys? :)

You will probably get more responses if you get this moved to the phone section - sure a Mod can help with that.

I did check for a phone section and found none O.o

Firstly, we need to determine if it's a hardware or software fault. It's been many years since my Touch Pro went to it's new home, but here's what I would try in your position.

Have you got auto-brightness set? If so, change it to manual brightness and see if you still have the problem. If you do, I would suggest a hard reset which will remove all your contacts, messages, etc, but will restore the phone to "factory settings" and will fix nearly all software problems. If you still have the issue, check on HTC's website for an updated software ROM and install that (if it's running a factory one) or look for a newer version of the custom ROM on XDA-Developers (if it's running a home cooked one).

Nope, its on manual brightness, crancked up to full too!

Can it be that maybe I had installed Android from XDA (but barley used it). Tbh, I don't want to do much to it, as its been les than a month and its unacceptable that this happens.

Yes, I think the ROM is updated too.

If you are still having the issues after trying all of those, then the fault is definitely hardware and you are stuck either sending it to HTC for a repair (which may well cost you if the phone isn't still under HTC warranty, and will take a while as they're currently swamped according to media reports of 3 month backlogs), or pushing the eBay seller for a swap.

Phone is still under HTC warranty. And 3 months :O :O I'll try call them up soon.

Good luck.

The phone section is under the Life category - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=80 - I wasn't meaning this to have a go, just more likely to get someone who's had this problem in that section. :)

If you installed Android onto the memory card and dual-booted, then don't worry as that won't have affected it. It would only be relevant if you had reflashed the phone's NAND to replace Windows entirely with Android. If you're on the most up to date stock ROM on a stock phone and having problems even after a hard reset, then it's definitely return to seller/HTC time I'm afraid. :(

It was on the storage card and dual booted yehh.

I am on the latest ROM, but haven't hard resetted yet. Will probs see how I can return to HTC

EDIT: Sorry, hadn't seen the Phones section :P
