I had infinity installed Monday and when that was done, the master socket was changed. The old socket was just an old standard BT master socket. Not an NTE5, just standard socket, no removable faceplate, with the old BT T on it.

They replaced it with an NTE5 + VDSL faceplate, looks like this https://www.clarity.it/vdsl_nte5_adaptor_faceplate.htm just with openreach on the front.

Anyway, I also had an extension bell/ringer for the phone. Basically a really old version of this

And well it doesn't seem to work anymore. Plug it and the phone into the socket, phone rings, extension ringer does not.

Just wondering why? Are the new sockets missing something that the old one had that made it work? Will changing to a more modern one fix it?

The ringer wire is probably missing or disconnected. This is usually a good thing, but obviously not in this case.

I think a modern extension ringer would work.

Just an update. Got the old bell working.

Apparently the openreach guy (was a contractor, not openreach themselves), had wired it wrong.

I told him it was a bell, but it was punched down into 2&5, where a normal extension would go, not 3&5 which is where a bell goes.

Looked online for the wiring, took off the user removable faceplate, punched a new cable down into 3&5 and then to the bell with that.

Doesn't seem to have effected my internet either. Sync rate/maximum sync rates and general line stats did not change.
