I don't think it's illegal?

I posted a thread not long ago linking to info about unlocking Nokia's BB5 series phones:

orange uk phones
1. get a pay as u go simcard on orange for £1.00
2. register this with the imei of your bb5 phone uk orange branded on 0800 279 3399 or you can register online
3. after 2-3 days add £20.00 of top up credit
4. after 5 days ring them on 07973 100 450 and ask for customr services pay as u go help desk and request your handset unlocking code.Give them a email address and they will mail you the code
5. They will then deduct 20.00 of credit and send email to [email protected] this is department that willget your code must have the time they will get it from Nokia within 4 days.

Vodafone handsets UK phones
1. get a vodafone simcard
2. register this online or telephone 08700 77 66 55 give them your simcard serila number and bb5 imei number
3. Add 20.00 of credit to your account can be done with top up voucher or online

nuc department requesting your code give your email so they can email you code back, with 10 days you get codes back

T mobile handsets and virgin
1. Get a pay as u go t-mobile simcard or virgin and register this with your t-mobile uk or virgin phone
2. add 15.00 of credit and use this credit. System must see that you have used handset at least once inits time.
3. Give them a call on 150 tmobile or 789 virgin and request subsidy code.
4. give them imei number and a return email address.
5. Most of the time they will only charge £15 but depending on the operator as long as they can see you have topped up by 15.00 they will process your order for code.
Turnaround 3-5 days

3G UK handsets
1. Get a three g pay as you go simcard
2. Get imei for your nokia 3G and ring 333 or registeronline
3. All 3g pay as u go calls go to india so expect them to be kind of difficult in understanding you.
4. Add 20.00 credit and wait 2-3 days
5. Ring customer services and request handest unlocking code
6. They will check against the imei and see if it belongs to anyone else. If the imei is ' live' showing it belongs to someone elses account, suggest that its a second hand used phone and you have purchased this o ebay .
7. They will deduct your payment and get the handset unlcoking code from there technical team within 7 days.

This methods are tested and working ad even if your not in the uk you can still get your phone unlocked.
Most of the so called unlockers in the UK use these methods.
Though it sounds hard its very easy and simple to do.

You could use a similar technique with the K1, if it is not unlockable via software yet. I paid £20 to get a Nokia 6680 I bought off ebay unlocked from Vodafone using this method. Changing the phone's IMEI is illegal, however.
