I made the mistake of asking Reddit users who only told me “use any phone just dont install apps” and that was considered “little self control” but that was not the point. I just dont care anymore about social media. I dont need any access too it nor do i even want to interact with anyone on it anymore. I am fed up with the attitude of most users and the general snobbishness and egocentricness that surrounds social media, however, given the fact that just about everyone who can afford every new apple or samsung phone is online, people are faced with no choice but to use social media or be tempted to use it

Therefore you cant not use social media unless you want to feel excluded and out of the loop. For example, I didnt know a former friend of mine had even got married, I havent many friends to message on the daily basis. The flipphones are too basic and outdated and most smartphones are filtered with apps who only want peoples money. Not to mention the amount they are asking for a glass screen nowadays is putting me off wanting to update if they are going to cost up to £1000

I hope that what I say makes sense because goodness me people cant even be bothered to read or take on board what someone else is saying to them without finding reasons to either insult them or be overly pompous about it

I dont care if it is a smartphone or not, I would just like a basic phone without internet or social media that doesnt cost a huge amount to purchase and can handle a pay as you go type thing

Nokia do some good dumb phones.

However there are so many benefits to a smart phone, I’d be sure you’d want to pass on those features.

trends are:
- dumb phones are getting more expensive and less dumb.
- payg is being phased out or getting very expensive per minute/text/gb, or requiring regular topups to prevent you getting cut off and losing your number, the networks want you on a contract (usually what they call payg is actually a monthly payment).
- some things require an app, e.g. ev charging, covid track and trace, nhs, whatsapp (everyone uses it instead of texting so it's a must have), etc. not having the ability to do that will cause you problems.

therefore the handset choice is obvious - get a low end smartphone, so it has these capabilites but doesn't break the bank. e.g. Samsung A32

the consequence of that is the phone needs internet for updates, and for other apps to work, so a 'no internet' phone isn't going to happen.

as for the sim, I like giffgaff for sim only, but you should go with someone who is on the network with the best signal in your area, giffgaff runs on O2.
