phones broken after 3 weeks of contract, no insurance, where do i stand?

As furnace says how did it happen? If it was you then I'm afraid you are out of luck, you could try returning it and see what they say but they would be under no obligations to replace if it is your fault.

If the phone simply failed then you will have a manufacturers guarantee of at least one year (batteries may be counted as consumables however) so return it to the store and they should replace it for you or send it off for repair. You may want to ask them for a courtesy handset while it is away for repair since 3 sims only properly work in 3 phones and if memory serves you didn't have one before.

Within the first 28 days after purchase, a genuine fault (i.e. not caused by customer) generally gives rise to a straight swap, or ability to cancel the contract. You shouldn't have to suffer not having a handset while you wait for a warranty repair if it's so recent since buying it.

On the other hand, if you've broken it (and it's obvious), you're stuck and the only option is buying a new handset yourself.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

No i didn't break it my self. It's just started turning off and freezing which it never used to do and the batteries getting hot. There is no obvious physical damage.

So I'm guessing it's faulty, because it hasn't been dropped and i look after my phones very well.

If there's no physical damage and no sign of water damage should they open it up then you won't have a problem getting the phone repaired/replaced by the manufacturer. Although I would certainly be asking for a direct instore replacement myself!

seems to be a very common problem with these :( someone i know is on his 3rd Slide :(

My mum accidently dropped her Nokia 8600 Luna, which it broke, she managed to get it fixed even thought she never had any insurance. The phone looks brand new now.

I think she is with Vodafone or 3G

I went today and apparently I need my mum to take it in and because the contract is in her name and it will take 3 days to get it looked at and sent back.

who are you with ?

phone them up. orange/vodafone/virgin have always sent a courier out next day with replacements in mine and familys expieriences.

I had a problem with my 6500 Slide with 3, it would randomly not know what MP3's it was playing and say if i moved the phone or changed the volume it would do the same, also it would freeze and could'nt use the phone.

I got a new replacement after ringing 3, they tried to fob me off by asking did i want it repaired but i said i would like a replacement so thats what they gave as they said ti was within 14 days of having it.

I did go into store and ask how long is the standard warrranty on the phone before taking out the contract and they said its 12 months manufacturers which just covers the phone becomes faulty aslong its not caused by the users.

I do love this phone though even though i would have loved to of had he N95, takes some great pictures given the lighting is ok and is a great MP3 player to, has loads of neat feature that i think are just awsome like being able to answer it with one button and hearing the person through my car speakers and still being able to hear me talking to them.

Answering a phone with one button?

Well my 3 contract is in someone else's name too, however, I just did the repair through the 3 website so had no need to get anyone else involved. All you need to register is your phone number and take down 6 digits off your SIM card, then you get a password. I let them know of the problem on Sunday by email, by Monday it was collected by a courier and had it back working by Wednesday the same week.

I thought i would get some people thinking im daft heheh, my previous phones you would either have to slide open or flick open.

I use my phone for music in my car as it does'nt have a CD player and i use the tape deck to fed the music through my speakers so i just push the button while its in its craddle and i can hear them coming through speakers and it cancels the music out until the call has ended then it automaticaly comes back on.

This mob has so much more features compared to my last ones and they all work so well together hehe.
