I have similar requirements and was looking at the Dell U2410. Keep putting pressing that buy button though as its a reasonable amount more than others in the 24" range.
I have talked myself out of the Dell U2711 because I think I may need to invest in a new GFX card to run games at the full resolution it provides.

I got myself a Dell u2312hm a month or ago (after 3 months of deciding), for photo editing and gaming, does the job very well if you're not a hardcore gamer. Although it is only 23" but the build quality is out of this world, with a 3 year warranty.

The Mac screens aren't exactly better than other monitors, if you want a similar experience then take a look at the Hazro HZ27WC which uses the same panel. It's also glossy which should give a very similar picture.
The DGM IPS-2701WPH should be nearly the same, it's glossy, it's IPS, it's the same resolution and most likely the same panel or a very similar one. Be fast with either btw, deals probably end tuesday/wednesday driving the price up by a good £60 or so.
