hey guys, i know this is an odd question to ask on this forum, but here goes...
I have a picture, of a guy standing in front of a crowd with his arms out straight, its a footballer. he has just scored and has jumped on to the advertising stands and is celebrating in front of a massive crowd. What I want to do, is to make the rest of the picture in black and white, (so a greyscale effect) and preferably put a glowing effect around him. i dont have photoshop, but have access to paint.net, gimp, any freeware really. if i can do this via one of those online programs that would be good too.

I am a total noob with photo editing, ive never needed to do it before, but I would like to learn, here is a good place to start.

thanks a lot.

Can you post a link to the photo? Fairly straightforward to do in photoshop. Not sure if paint.net or Gimp can do the layers stuff? Never used them so don't know.

One way is to create a copy of the image and covert it to black an white. Then use the magic eraser to rub out the grayscale figure to reveal the original colour one. Merge the layers down for the final image.
