I've got a meeting tomorrow with my soon to be boss again about an interesting opportunity!

Last summer I working at a language centre as an activity leader taking students out to loads of cool places and doing various activities. I took quite a lot of pictures whilst doing so and these were always put up on the notice board and I let the students have copies. They were very popular so this year we got thinking about making a little photo shop within the company, framing up the pictures and selling them onto students.

Quite excited about it really! Could make a bit of extra cash doing something I enjoy! Anyway, I've been putting together a few ideas and was just wondering if anyone had any previous experience doing something like this...

I dont have access to a decent photo printer so its probably going to work out best to print with someone like photobox.com. It would be a disadvantage not being able to hand over the pictures straight away but at least the quality will be very good for a low price! Could always buy a printer at a later date if we feel its necessary. Then there are the frames, currently still looking for a local supplier but have found a website called fastframes which might be the business. Will be about £2.30 +p&p for a small alu glass frame which doesnt sound to bad. Leaving a final product to retail somewhere between £7-10.

Just got to nail down percentage profits, I've a feeling the company are going to ask for 50:50, which isnt too bad seeing as they supply the shop and students! But then It's all my own equipment & software, i'll be the one taking and processing the pictures, packaging them up and advertising + selling. So i'm still deciding on trying to get a better deal...

Hmmm, seems a bit of a mind dump post but hopefully something constructive might come out of it! Any thoughts much appreachiated.

Im no expert at this - but is the photo quality any better from photobox than you'd get on a £100 inkjet?

I can't say I ever notice much difference with mine.

Photos from an inkjet will fade a lot faster over time, esp with cheap ink.

Im sure this is 100% true - though in the 3 years I have had an inkjet I've never seen evidence of this.. I reckon you would get away with an inkjet for the types of pics youre taking, and save/earn yourself a few extra quid.

Sounds like a nice opportunity to practice your art :)
