Photo Library Management

Apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum or has been asked numerous times before.

What does everyone use to manage their photo collections? I have around 200GB of photos which were sorted by <Year>\<Place>. Ideally I would like to tag the photos and then be able to search based on the tags.

Had a brief look at Digikam and Lightroom, are there any better alternatives? Digikam was too unstable for me on a Windows machine and really slow when tagging photos (also didn't help that it corrupted it's MySQL DB somehow and I had to start again before giving up). Lightroom seemed good but at ~£9 a month then not sure it's worth it just to tag and search photos which is all I would be using it for.

Lightroom, don't go subscription and just buy a version and use it for a few years before upgrading.

But seriously, I don't get the non subscription route, I mean, its like £9 a month and you get the latest versions or LR and PS updated constantly. Seems like a good deal to me.
