What are people using for their photo libraries?

I'm don't take huge amounts of pictures but it got to the point where I needed to use something to manage and view them rather than just dumping them in folders and never looking at them again!

I had been using iPhoto on Mac quite happily, but since the move to Photos am finding it not as easy to do what I want to.

Main thing is I grouped pictures by event name, and could export them into folders with that event name for backup purposes.

Now in the newer Mac Photos app I can't seem to export into subfolders by album name, only get the option to do it by moment name which is no good for me.

So what would people recommend, is there a better way to do it in the Photos app or would something like Lightroom be better to organise things?

I think my main concern is that I am able to export/backup the pictures by album/folder name easily rather than dates they were taken or dates they were imported as I may have albums that I add pictures to over time, thanks!

Bridge on the laptop and Bridge/Picasa on the PC. The laptop (MBP) is where I do most of my editing as I prefer how the final images look off there but is limited by HD space. But I use Bridge on that to rate the images I want to edit then use LR for editing before exporting to tiff and finishing off in PS.
