Looking for suggestions for a photo and video browser for Windows.
For many years I've used XNView Classic. But it doesn't handle video. I've tried the latest XNView MP which does but it just constantly locks up on video. Requiring a force shut down of the app. I've had enough.
Wondering what other people are using for browsing large photo and video libraries.

I've tried loads over the years, but can't say I've ever found one that suits!

Tried Bridge, Picasa, XNView, irfanview etc - they always seems to not work that intuitively or abstract away from actual files (ie you end up with huge dependencies on using the software to understand your library).

I'd love one that actually sorted my images into tidy folders to the spec I want, not some silly format that suited the developers - but yet to find one!

I'm quietly hopeful around the HEIC file format (effectively to replace jpg, but has lots of additional benefits like you can have multiple files within it - so I can just have a file called 'photos of Matthew playing football' and it can have the 40-50 photos I took in one place. That might actually reduce the challenge significantly.

Personally I use windows photo viewer classic and file folders most of the time!

I have an app that sorts photos in date folders, and then another that renames them by exif date. Then where no date or meaningful name exists I have a good renaming application.

2022 was almost 40GB up from about 30GB in 2020. I'm hoping to do more video this year. I've also started bulk scanning in old photos.

Not all photos and video have exif dates or meaningful names as I'm combining photos from different people and devices. So there a fair bit of house keeping getting rid of duplicates or bad photos. Which is where the image/media browser comes in. As I don't want to be storing or backup junk either.

So I need a better media browser.

Some of these are old hard to find. But just do exactly what I want. Many are no longer in active development or support.

PhotoMove 2.5 - move to folders based on exif date
namexif - rename based on exisf
dupeguru - duplicate file/photo finder
Advanced Renamer - renames file based on rules

xnview - media browser (batch processing and renaming) latest version gone quite crashy. I've reached out to support. Its been my goto app for years.

Partly what I'm doing is renaming them so the file are date order, if I flatten the directory, to put on a phone or such. Since modern devices seem to be allergic to sub folders and tree navigation in general.
