Hi there,
Recently i bought my first DSLR and ive already had a few hair moments where ive dropped the camera or nearly dropped it. So i think its time i bought some insurance for my stuff :p. Which is/are the best company's for this? Does it cost much?

Thanks Ryan

i'd stay clear of E+L if you require cover from theft of a vehicle, any car thats boot can be accessed from inside the car (folding rear seats) are not covered.

I'm with photoguard, i pay about £12/month for £3.5k worth of kit

Take a look and see if you can get it covered under an existing home contents policy. I've got about £8K of kit covered (including a sensibly worded boot of car clause) for far less than speciaist cover would cost.

Insewerants companys are pretty much all the same. They will use any excuse in the book (or very small print) to wriggle out of paying out a claim. Mind there was a guy recently didnt have the "right sort of heart attack" for his insurance to pay out, even though he had medical evidence from his doctor.

What I'm getting at is, look beyond the cost of the policy. Look at the level of service you are likely to get in the event of a claim. You gets what you pays for. Listen to other peoples experiences to help you decide.

Photoguard look pretty good on price - £12pm for £2k worth of kit, worldwide. Anyone know of any catches in their policy specifically?

I use PG and they seem alright but havent made a claim against them yet.

£250 per year for about £7,000 of equipment and also Public liability insurance up to 5 million (needed for track days)

Also 30 days world wide cover and full EU cover.

If its for personal use, and you have your own household contents policy use this every time. Or tag it on your parents policy if you are still at home.

I pay £364.98 a year with Glover & Howe (UK & Europe with 20 days worldwide), hope they're good. It's a bit of a mine field for camera insurance out there.
