I'm looking for information on the costs involved in setting up a website for my photography business. Historically I've used out of the box solutions (Flickr etc) to display my work but as I'm getting more work I'd like someone professional. I'm currently trying out Zenfolio but I'm not sure if their pre-packaged sites are what I'm after.

Can any of you guys who have your own sites give me an indication of price and who/where you had your sites created.

Thanks :)

I used Bludomain - can't remember their exact cost but have a look at the portfolio, it is the 'Dylan' model - that was a one off cost

My hosting is £30 a year from TSOHost

Domain is £5-£10 every 2 years I think

Thanks! Bludomain isn't something I'm familiar with. Just having a look now :)

Edit.. How easy is it to customise their templates?

Reasons I went with them:

Mondo had his website off of them, and recommended them highly.

Their reviews were excellent.

Support was very good if needed.

They did all the website setting up. So I picked my site, gave them the admin details to my server, they did the rest and emailed me to say its ready for me. I then got a web portal log on, put all the content on there and hit 'live' - job done.

Also I can login to that portal now and configure it from there, saves messing around with HTML's etc. It's a point and click GUI which is handy for website thicko's like me :)

Something like WordPress on your own shared hosting with a theme from themeforest or something is a little more personal and allows you more control. TSOhost or similar have packages that are affordable, you're looking at about £6 a year for a domain and maybe £30 one off for a theme. The install is very simple.

Takes half an hour to get used to it, but it's a doddle in the grand scheme of things.

I'll screenshot the backend when I get home later on.

Great thanks :)

I looked at wordpress a while ago but got tied up with the back-end stuff which is why I'm looking for something simple. I'll give it another look as things may have changed.

Honestly it was one of the easiest and quickest websites I've ever done.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I can show you gallery/client uploads if you want.

Thank you so much for that! Really appreciate you taking the time to post everything.

I'll be looking at templates tonight :)

Had a good look around Bludomain and have a good idea of which one I'd like to go for..

Two quick questions Jacob. I've read a lot of bad reviews about their service when they host the site. I take it you've had no issues hosting it yourself? Have you had to contact them for anything?

Well, like you say. My hosting is with TSO so any issues that side I'd go with them.

However, if I have had to contact Bludomain, they have been very very helpful. I can't remember their time zone but I'd typically get replies at 2-3am due to their working hours.

I only had a handful of questions when setting up my site (stuff like how do I find blah blah blah) and they always were omre than helpful. I haven't had to contact them since I set the site up though.

I also know Raymond had a similar experience.

I'll be using my TSO hosting also so that's good to know.

Thanks again for your help. I should be pulling the trigger sometime this week while they have a sale on :)

Thanks! Just waiting for the order to go through. When do they request hosting details?

Lovely photographs! I think Bludomain is better for my needs but appreciate the advice :)

I can't remember now, it'll be when they process the order...won't take long!
