Photon 170 D5 or separate?

I see the Photon 170 quite widely used in 540 WC builds. But it requires some kind of mod to the case or removal of the SSD cage.

What about the following as an alternative?

XSPC Acrylic Tank Reservoir for Laing D5 + XSPC D5 Vario (Body + Screwring)

Any potential problems with it being acrylic or too small as a res?

Most res`s are acrylic.

No reason why you couldn't use that in a 540

Indeed, I've seen it done. But that was modded but I think this would pretty nicely sit on top of the ssd cages.

So can anyone shed light on res sizes. This one seems a little small but does that matter, does res size matter in general?

Res main function is to act as an air trap making bleeding/filling easy.

Only advantage of having a bigger res is water volume the more water the longer it takes for the temps to rise. However I imagine the difference in time is negligible unless res are in the litre+ range. Once the water is saturated size of res makes no difference other than asectics.

Brill, that means I can use that combination so i dont have to mod the case.
