In CS2's ImageReady next to the save Presets there's a right-facing arrow that allows you to change the settings for 'edit output settings'.
Perhaps a setting in there is reducing the character length? Maybe using the default settings will help out (unless it's the default settings that's doing this).
Cheers fella, I switched off mac and unix compatibility and it let me make it any length. Are there still issues with those platforms on file name length?
If you are uploading to a unix-hosted server then you'll need to keep unix compatibility ticked.
Not sure exactly what unix filename limitations are but it could be either 8 or 16 characters and lowercase-only... maybe?
Someone will know unix better than my significantly limited knowledge!
If you don't set it just now and you put together a webpage with long character filenames it might be a bit of a pain trying to sort it out for unix hosting.
Hmm, seems a mac thing, if I switch unix back on it lets me have as long a file name as I want. Do you think that its just a mac hosting thing rather than something someone browsing on a mac that it would cause a problem with?
It's people using the old IE5 for mac on OS9 (yeah, that old) or lower, it can sometimes choke on long filenames. *nix (including Mac OSX) has almost no limitations on filenames, they can be named anything, use any special characters etc.
