Photoshop - Adding a border

Hi

I've got 2 pictures at the moment that i want to get printed onto a canvas. However when making the images i've not factored in the canvas wrapping around the edges (38mm each side)

How can i add on an extra bit to a psd file (or a picture) to allow for this and not have it affect the total size of the picture or mess up the aspect ratio.

I'm a bit useless on photoshop so simple guides would be helpful

I'd personally talk to the printer and explain how you'd like it printing onto the canvas, it's the only way to guarantee you getting it how you want.

the idea of wrap around is that the photo/picture itself gets wrapped around the edge

if you add something on to this space,it wont look like the picture is wrapping around

why not just enlarge your image, so that it will wrap around and still come out the size you want

usually the image needs to be enlarged by the size of the stretcher bars to factor in the wrap (assuming you want a full wrap) if you are wanting a standard wrap(with plain sides) you'd need to enlarge your image by around a 1/4 inch).

But your printre should have explained this to you when you ordered.

Out of interest who are you getting this done by?

Paul - I’m planning on having a table plan printed for our wedding (see below) as such if anything is wrapped around the edges it will look odd and probably miss off some names etc, so I just want to put an ivory border around it so that the image on the front on the canvas matches what is shown below.

I’ve not really got a printer sorted yet but I was planning to just use one of the many online based companies to do it. It’s the latter I want to do (add a 1/4inch around the image in plain ivory to match the background of the image) I’m just not sure how to go about it

Image -> Canvas Size


This will enlarge or shrink the canvas without resizing the image.

By selecting the arrows at the bottom you can tell it where to expand/shrink from, by default it will expand/shrink in all directions from the centre.

So - change your Width and Height units to something suitable, and add what you need.
