Looking to get Photoshop CS3 as Adobe kindly don't support the 40D in CS2 and saw an item described as "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended 29400066".

What does this mean? Is it a full product?

What do you mean by supported? do you mean with the RAW files from the camera? You can get Raw updates from the adobe site, that will allow you to open them. ill go and find a link.

Raw plugin ver 3.7 doesn't support the 40D - I tried putting that plugin into the file format folder in CS2 but it doesn't open the file, says it's unsupported. Looking round t'internet, there's a general feeling of annoyance at what seems like Adobe making you upgrade just because you have a 40D.

If someone can find a plugin that allows CS2 to see 40D files, I'd be very grateful!

You might want to consider getting lightroom rather than photoshop, this will allow you to edit your raw files and transfer them easily into photoshop CS2, without having to upgrade to CS3. This would be a much more in-expensive solution.
