Hi, I recently upgraded my computer primarily to resolve my previous Photoshop issues which were occurring.

PC Specs:
Operating System
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

CPU
Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.20GHz 46 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 667MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z77-DS3H (Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz) 28 °C

Graphics
ASUS VE278 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (ASUStek Computer Inc) 36 °C

Storage
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKX-00ERMA0 ATA Device (SATA) 25 °C
250GB Crucial_CT256MX100SSD1 ATA Device (SSD)

The issue which is present even on this powerful computer is that Photoshop can't handle large files (100mb + .PSD files)
It doesn't perform at its optimal performance and I would have expected that my computer could easily handle large Photoshop docs as well as other heavy software, but evidently it cannot.
Is there a flaw in my computer specs or the software which could possibly causing the issue as I'm sure a computer like mine should be able to handle this with ease.

I'm aware that Photoshop heavily utilizes the GPU and partly the CPU for specific processes. My GPU isn't the problem as I've read previous reviews regarding that GPU and Photoshop and accordingly it's a great combination between the two. Hopefully my CPU isn't majorly dragging my PC behind as I'm aware that it's a fairly old processor. I'm leaning towards lack of RAM being the issue, would upgrading to 16gb RAM do any justice?

Note that I've not tried many other graphics software at this level so I'm not entirely convinced that it's due to my computer, hopefully just a few settings on the software.

If someone could help me reach a conclusion that would be brill, thanks in advance.

More RAM, more RAM and more RAM :)
Yes 16GB of RAM should solve your problems.

Also adding a a separate HDD or spare SSD for use a Scratch disk would help too, but did I mention more RAM :D

Look in Task Manager whilst running Photoshop - how much RAM is in use? If you're using more than 75-80% of your RAM then I'd say you'd benefit from upgrading to 16GB.
