Photoshop/Fireworks problem!

I'm trying to use the new features of Adobe Fireworks 8 and also in CS3 to open up a photoshop CS2 psd.

As far as I'm aware this shouldn't be a problem and I should have access to all my photoshop layers saved from cs2 in my fireworks document.

Now what is actualy happing is that in both Fireworks 8 and Fireworks CS3 the PSD is being opend as a bitmap with no access to my layers.

After doing a bit of testing and reinstalling photoshop 7, saving a PSD with several layers and then opeing in Fireworks CS3 it loads correctly showing the layers of the test Photoshop 7 document.

Ok so far so good the problem is my Photoshop CS2 file which I have spent some time creating doesn't work in Photoshop 7 either. It opens as a bitmap with no access to any layers.

I'm at a loss as how to go about exporting my CS2 file in a format which I can load in Photoshop 7 and then save out to Fireworks.

I'm not using anything special in any of the layers which where not available in 7, infact anything out of the ordinary I have already merged down and rasterized in an attempt to get fireworks to load it correctly.

Does anyone know how to convert a CS2 file to a photoshop 7 file or am I doomed to have to start again from scratch in 7?

Managed to figure it out with a little bit of fideling. Seems Fireworks and PS7 don't support 16 Bits per channel, reducing this down to 8 Bits per channel fixed it.

It now opens in both fireworks and PS7.
