Photoshop for a PII 450 :)

A mate is just getting into computers (hense the pants pc), and he wants to try his hand at some design. So I need to find him something which he can do a course in and importantly will run on his machine.

So in short which version of Photoshop will run on his beast?

P2 450
512 ram
4 meg video card

but where would you find a copy of photoshop 5.0 nowadays?

Just install Gimp for him, I think that runs on a low spec and it is free.

Thanks, unfortunatly it needs to be a big brand one (with a course/qualification).

Paint Shop Pro should do the trick, but what do you mean "...needs to be a big brand one." Why does that matter? And if it does, surely the course should lay down what apps you're allowed to use?

Whatever you choose, getting a legit copy of 5 year-old-software won't be that easy. Having said that, I've got a legit copy of Paint Shop Pro 5 laying about somewhere...

I run Photoshop 7 on a P2 450 with 256 meg at work.
Takes about 30 secs to load in and I wouldn't recommend hi-end rendering but it still does the job.
