Is there a way to set guides in Photoshop the same way as Fireworks? For example I can drag out a guide, double click it, and then set it to move to x pixel?
Not sure of how Fireworks works, but you can set guides by going "View->New Guide", which allows you to place it using specific cm or px in your document.
You can use the document grid to set up guides to a specific size, i.e. borders but I don't think there's an indesign style one like you mentioned.
For stuff where the grid doesn't cut it I usually set a selection box to the exact size I want (for example, 12 pixels) by using the pull down option at the top to fixed size, set it to fixed size and then snap the guide to it. I'm quite old school in some of my techniques so there maybe some other way to do it.
