If you open up the replace colour tool in Photoshop (Along with various other tools) it will give you a preview in a black and white heatmap like thing. Does anyone know how to get this effect on the original image?

The photography forum guys will know. I would convert to B&W and then mess around with the curves but I'm not a Photoshop user. From what I can see it's just a really high contrast conversion.

possibly the best bet would be going up to the image / adjustments / gradient map. select the black to white (you might have to reverse it though as it looks like the white of the water is black) swatch then further adjust if need be.

I tried:

Image > Adjustments > Desaturate
Image > Adjustments > Invert
Image > Adjustments > Levels
then had a play with the sliders for desired effect.
