Hey guys, i need to find out how to straighten out a picture in photoshop.

For instance, i've taken a picture of a guy in a door, because of the angle i've take it, the frame of the door is moving into the middle of the picture, not coming straight down:

The photo is cropped in, so the original has the whole door to alter.

I know that there is a way to straighten the frame out, but i don't know what the terminology is to search for a tutorial.

It seemed pretty advanced when i saw someone do it before, they were creating lines, and then started to erase layers and magically it was all straight.

Thanks

Looks like you're wanting to change the perspective?

Ctrl + T to enter transform mode, then right click and select perspective. Drag the bottom corner points horizontally to adjust until the door frame is straight and that should do the trick.

This may leave the person looking slightly distorted, that's where the erasing of layers comes in that you saw on the video, he would have duplicated the image, adjusted the perspective of the top layer, then used masks so that the door frame would be shown from the adjusted layer, but the person would come from the original image.

Thanks Raymond, but that elongates the body, making it seem unnatural.

I've played with the other sliders, but can't get it to keep the same look.

I already had the lens correction on as well beforehand.

The method i'm after is in photoshop, where by lines and layers were created, and then eventually erased to reveal a perfectly straight image.

Any idea what this method is called, or a link to vid or tutorial?

That's exactly what i saw a couple of years ago.

No link I'm afraid, if you send me a link to the full-res image (use my email in trust) I'll have a play, and if I can get it looking good I'll try and do a video for you :)

If you don't want to distort the subject, you might be best just cloning out the sides of the door frame.
