photoshop, quick mask

I cant seem to be able to get quick mask to work, any ideas what i could be doing wrong?

I hit the button, select brush etc and it doesn't paint anything....and before you say yes I know it should show as red but it doesnt do anything at all.

Assuming it's a fault with photoshop and not something you've done wrong, you can try deleting the settings file.

alt+ctrl+shift while starting photoshop.

(this also fixes photoshop when it's stuck on 'loading preferences' which it seems to do once every month for me)

found out what was wrong,

bit of an idiotic moment but the colour should be on black and not on white.
but tutorials made it sound like it should paint red no matter what.
