How do you remove a plane trail or large expanse of cloud, without the image going 'blotchy'? I've tried a few methods and none are acceptable to me as they degrade the overall picture quality.

Any suggestions?

The whole cloudy pink bit needs to go aswell, thats the bit that goes weird if you heal over it.

Just with the healing tool? I can see 'slight' blotching but it's a lot better than I could manage.

I added a new layer, filled it with the same blue from the top right corner, then set it's blending to "color" and tweaked the opacity down a notch, then used healing tool with a 300px soft brush to remove the cloud.

Honestly, it was a rush job. 5mins, no more than. I've not got a lot to do today so I just might spend a bit more time on it later, but my hangover is really starting to hurt and keeping concentration is getting difficult.

RE: Blotchyness, that's probably the jpg compression doing that.. I'll upload a PNG in a mo for comparison.

Just had a go, I lassoo'd the area, filled it with a nearby colour and filled the selection, changed blending to color which neatralised the pinkness, but it's still a light spot in the sky. Tried using the healing tool but it's not really working for me. As always it just ends up blotching, are you using a tablet or mouse?

On the full image there is a gradation in colour in the sky, could this be making it more difficult?

I've uploaded a slightly different portion of the sky here: www.cspiby.entadsl.com/sky2.jpg

First time I used my tablet, but the last two I just used my mouse. Didn't lasso anything, the new layer is applied over the whole image, and for the healing, I picked a spot to the right of the picture, then "healed" the cloud. The gradient does make it difficult, but it'll always have a gradient - it's the sky after all.

The grains make it difficult, too, but you'll always have grains in photo's - digital or film. This is why skilled PS'ers can earn a lot of cash. :)

Ok I've ended up lasooing and feathering so it blends into the rest of the sky, it's not looking perfect but it'll do, it won't show if it's repro'd anyway. Thanks.
