Hi guys,

Have a full size jpg - http://www.je-design.co.uk/public/IMG_5966.jpg

Right, I want to remove the green from the pool table. And leave just the balls in colour.

I know its tacky, but it's a customers request :)

See, I can do this to an extent. Problem is I'm left with a green tinge on the balls (I giggled when writing this, sad eh?) when I don't want that. I want them to be just their own colour.

Any/all help appreciated.

Jake

not surprised you giggled as you wrote that lol think i'd of been in much the same way tingin my balls green,

not sure you'll manage to take all green off your balls if it's permenent marker (giggles too)serious note now, not sure you'll manage to take all the green out of the balls as the balls are slightly out of focus thus blending the green and the balls colors together over a much broader line than just a fine line, though i can say i've never had that much experience with photoshop, i have had experience in colouring balls tho lol

Indeed, got a mate whos a dab hand at photoshop so is giving it a go. Mainly to give him something to do as he said he was bored :)

how did i know that it would be jake talking balls in here :D

Will try something tonight after work if there's not anything reasonable before :)

Not at a computer with photoshop but if no-one has managed by later ill do it. Anyone even semi literate in photoshop will be able to whip that green on the balls out no problem :)

Don't worry guys, a friend of mine did it. :) Thanks anyway!

Would you like to see the result?

Thanks Johnny :) - Efforts appreciated.

Heres what my friend came up with.

I think the image firstly needs to be rotated clockwise slightly, personally I would go back to your client with a revised image with the green toned right down, but still showing colour and advise of the technical issue of removing all colour from the cloth.
This would still add focus to the balls on the table, but the effects of fringing etc would be much more manageable, and the yellow can be blended back in with a soft brush, this also avoids the issue if irregular soft and hard edges that are not congruent with the depth of field of the rest of the image.

Your friend did an admirably good job, but he could cover his photochop tracks, and if anything kills a an image IMO, it's when you can see it's obviously been retouched.

Personally I don't like the selective colour look of this image even if you couldn't see the 'tracks'. I don't know what this image is to be used for but perhaps you could experiment with other forms of PP?

Failing that you could always re-take the shot, and up your F-stop.

I explained to them about this and they said 'do the best you can' and I even told them I think it looks tacky etc but nope, they insisted.

It will do :)

thats a pretty good effort but you'll nevcer get the green reflection out of the yellows, maybe a pro could by turning the green into a black ( the green thats still on the balls)

I used the image from post #9 and did exactly what johnny suggested. (painted the colour of the ball back over the green reflection of the velvet on a new layer set to colour blend mode) The bokeh halo around the closest red ball is where the trouble occurs.

ahhh yh, i didn't notice at first that the closest red is still hinting a touch of green on the halo...

maybe you could redo the halo with a broad line and have the line phased from red to black, it may beed some blurring added afterwards to make it look authentic again, i think it's possible, i used to do CAD and i know there is tools to do it

Exactly. You wont wont get rid of much more than what I have without introducing noticeable chunks. The brush work is the only way to give that a proper good effect and maybe if you're still having tonal issues perform a colour by numbers curves correction specifically for the yellows and green.
