Photoshop Spec requested!

OK - guessing here:

TX = modular

VX & TX = non modular?

Modular = cables plug in.

Non-modular = cables already in PSU and those not wanted just get pulled to one side.

Am I close??

Spot on, modular power supplies save on cable clutter. HX = modular. The others aren't.

Is that on Vista 64?

If not, is 4GB enough for Vista 64?

I guess I could always add more later if it seemed like it needed it. Would it matter if the exact RAM I fit now is not available if I decide to add some more? Presumably something of same spec would be fine?

Running 4GB of RAM on Vista 64, and 2GB of RAM on Vista 32. Photoshop runs like a dream, as does the rest of Creative Suite 3. And yeah, you can always add more later if you need it.

OK - current 'basket'

GPU / HDD / PSU / Optical - all subject to minor amendment!!

I've launched a separate PSU thread as this one is getting a bit long and the PSU isn't really directly related to this being a 'Photoshop PC'.

Other than the PSU, I think the GPU is the one component I'm still not certain about.

Have kept the retail CPU for 3 yr warranty.

Board seems OK - well no one has suggested anything else!

HDD - might swap for Samsung, but little in it.

Case - again, seems OK to the extent no-one has suggested anything else! Only has 2 USB though. Do other cases have more - or is that fairly standard? Presumably there are more at the back???

Memory - seems to make sense! As do optical and cooler.

The majority only have 2 at the front - do you really want to have lots of USB stuff hanging out the front of your PC?

The motherboard should have atleast 6 ports on the back of it, and it will more than likely have extra headers for an additional 4-6 ports (2 of which will be taken up by the case's front USB ports).

I quite like that case anyway, its small and looks smart.

here my attempt

the ati cards also accelerate CS4.

the PSU is more than enough.

mobo imo is very good and cheaper, and will easily clock the GPU to 3GHz +

the antec 300 is one of the best cases and a quiet fan i have added as there are no front fans.

Hi - Thanks for this spec. I've been watching your weekly price spec thread too - great job.
The GPU you suggest is quite a bit more money than the one in my current theoretical line up (a 4670 or even a 4650).

Do you think I need the higher spec or will see a marked uplift in performance to show for it?

Thanks
