Hi,
Ive been asked to spec up a system on the cheap for photoshop usage by a friend.

Im unsure what sort of specs i should be looking at.
Its obviously gonna be dual core, and from experiance, 4Gb of memory would come in handy. I was also thinking of two HDDs. A small one for the OS/programs and a second for storage/swap file?

Suggestions?
Keyboard, monitor, mouse & speakers arnt needed btw, and could do with dual display outputs as there are two monitors.

Thanks in advance all. :).

I am using a Dell Trinitron P1110 21" @ 1600x1200 with CS3
much much better then a flat screen monitor.

And you can get a refurb P1110 for about £35 now.

hope that helps a bit

Budget is as cheap as possible.

Preferably MATX.
And i dont think that fancy of a graphics card is needed for photo work. So thres -£90 of the price you put. :).
Ive seen a good antec case with a 380W PSU, so theres some more money saved off the PSU.
Can probably use the DVDRW out of the old system as well.

If its a system that is built for using photoshop, I would seriously consider a Q6600 (2.4 quad) if you can afford it. Photoshop uses all cores very efficiently which makes it much smoother to use in general. And yes, for photoshop, CPU is more important than a really fancy graphics card. Also, as much memory as you can afford, 4gb would be good! :)

Its not gonna be used for really heavy PS work.
Its for someone who's just starting out with it. Just learning it.
