The main thing it teaches you is how to see, which sounds daft but once you can see your drawing skills improve immensley.
As an example, when you try and draw a persons eye, unconciesly you draw without looking properly, you draw from when you where a child and draw the shape of the eye which you have always drawn, you need to force yourself out of this and draw what you see and the books exercises help you to do this. You will also learn about shading and light.
You will be able to do realistic drawings on the human head easy after you have finished the book.
I always thought good drawers had a gift but anyone no matter what there skill can be great drawers.
