http://www.crazyleafdesign.com/blog/photosynth-prototype/

this looks like a pretty awesome way to veiw your photos.

edit - you can try it out your self here http://labs.live.com/photosynth/, once installed you can check out some other photo collections here http://labs.live.com/photosynth/collectionHome.htm

Nice... gonna download now :)

EDIT

Wow, I'm surprised MS made a Firefox 'plug-in' version of this

EDIT

Not as impressed with the preview really... unless I'm doing it wrong it just seems like a fancy flash album rather than hundreds of seamless photos like they demonstrated on the video.

EDIT

Ah, found the one they demonstrated in the video :). Cool. Hopefully they'll bring out a program version of it so personal photos can be used.

:)

It's not quite as good, probably because it's flash, but it's very similar.

I love this sort of thing. I regularly show kids burgeoning technologies and research - it's a real eye opener for them. I showed them Microsoft Surface just before the end of term and it got a fair few  responses. I'm looking forward to showing them this in September :)

You're a teacher then? :) What age group?

I think this is better than Microsoft Surface. Its not going to be as hard to get this out to the market and the real world uses seem more obvious and believable than the Surface uses. I really can't imagine using a table as a computer, its the wrong size, at the wrong angle etc.

It's not often that I see something that could potentially change the way we do things, but this could be one! Imagine you were travelling through a foreign city and saw something that took your fancy (sculpture, car, building, person... etc) You could take a photo on your phone, link it to this system, and gain access to everyone else's shots of said item along with all the meta-tags that have been in putted. Instant access to the combined knowledge of mankind at the flash of a photo.

Could be awesome! - Off to play. :D

That is the major appeal for me. Knowing that I could take a pic of somewhere, upload it and a program could analyse other pics on the Internet and add mine to the "knowledge".
