php default files

i have a site on apache which launches the index.php file automatically if you just type in the domain and dir, eg www.domain.com/dir/ launches www.domain.com/dir/index.php

However, I have added a folder with another index.php, but that one will not lanch automatically. I'm new to php so m stumped, can anyone offer any advice please.

Its a setting in the config file for the apache server so unless you can modify the apache installation you wont be able to check.
