phpBB forum and bots?

I run a phpBB forum and i'm having to delete 10-15 bots a day.

The forum has been up around 3 years with nearly a thousand members. Fortunately I have to activate accounts before people can post so at the moment they just sign up but can't do anything.

Quite annoying having to delete them all the time though.

I've got the latest version installed. Anything I can do to stop them?
 
Hmmm, funny you should say that mate as i've been setting up a few forums at work and they all have that option, the visual confirmation code etc.

However my forum dosen't and theres nowhere to turn it on?
