Hi

I use a forum which currently offers no Android specific forum software / reader integration, although it does have TouchBB for the Apple fanboys!

I've asked the owner of the forum if he'd be prepared to implement something for Android (maybe tapatalk) and his answer is that he'd love to, but he's running a fairly heavily modified phpBB2 and there are no Android-supported forum reader APIs which support this forum software.

So:

a) Any one have any suggestions for forum readers compatible with phpBB2?

or

b) Is it a huge job to upgrade to phpBB3 - given all the customisation? The forum has over 17,000 users and more than 800,000 posts - if that makes a difference!

I'm not publishing the name of the forum here, as it's not my forum, but will either email it to anyone who wants to know, or maybe give some clues which will make it obvious, if it makes a difference to your answer.

You would lose all of the MODs if you migrate to phpBB3.
The only ones that transfer over are attachments and birthdays.

Converting the board is pretty straightforward. You just install phpBB3 and click convert. Yours would probably take around an hour or so to do and it doesn't actually touch the old board so you would lose nothing by converting and seeing what you think.

phpBB themselves stopped supporting 2x nearly 3 years ago so I'd be surprised if anyone had made a tapatalk-a-like app for it.

Hi - Thanks for the response. I guess it's all the customisation etc that would take the time.

You can use an offline setup like XMAPP or easyphp so you can do all the re-customising offline and then when you're ready to move you just upload the changed files and the new site can go live in the modified guise you want.
