Physical disk question

If you buy a Physical disk game and it comes with a code in box, can this still be activated on a PS5 digital console?

Im looking at buying Diablo IV and its a lot cheaper buying disc version vs downloaded

You'll still need the disc to install it, any codes are likely for DLC or other bonus content. I'm not aware of any games that include a disc and a full game download as they'd effectively be giving you two copies.

The codes included would only be for extra content that is included and not to activate the game on your account.

You'll need to buy the digital version if you have a digital only console.

This for me makes discs useless, I’d like to help out the physical disk market but once I bought the game and installed it I’d like to be able to play it without the dusk

I can see why this not possible due to resale issue. But if they made the disks writable on install then they could update the disk either on disk side or label side with a visible mark on the disk
But would cost too much money on the console and add to much work on the seller too

When they started selling discs with nothing but an exe on it I saw the beginning of the end. It's the same on consoles as well. Although they are slowly drip feeding it. Get ready to say goodbye to your physical copies. You will essentially have a plastic case and a coaster.
