Hey, would anyone be able to tell me the actual viewable screen w x h of the 20" WS models like the Belinea, just want to get a rough idea of the screen size compared to my current 19" CRT. Thanks a lot!

Roughly 432 x 270 mm here, Dell 2007WFP. An easy way to think about it is same height as a 19" CRT (roughly) but with an extra 4 cm on either side. Nevertheless it feels bigger than that somehow.

Yes it is exactly same height as my current diamond pro 920, thats good to know i wont lose any height if i go 20" wide.

It can be easily worked out using pre-GCSE geometry, knowing the horizontal:vertical ratio as being 16:9 and the hypotenuse being 20".
Yep, that method gets me 431 x 269 mm (PC widescreens are 16:10).

How do you work it out using a ratio instead of knowing the length of another side? *wonders how he passed maths gsce years ago*.

You only need the length of the hypoternuse (20", x2.54 for cm) and the angle, which you use the aspect ratio to calculate, using an inverse tangent. So in the case of a 16:10 widescreen, you do inv tan ( 10 / 16 ) which gets you the angle (32.0 degrees), then it's just cosine or sine of that angle multiplied by the hypoternuse (20 inches) for the two sides you want.

You need to do some simple rearranging of the trig equations to get to that point. You'll remember SOH CAH TOA, so Sin (angle) = Opp/Hyp, Cos (angle) = Adj/Hyp and Tan (angle) = Opp/Adj. Those are rearranged to Opp = Sin (angle) * Hyp and Adj = Cos (angle) * Hyp, in both cases both sides of the equations have been multiplied by Hyp, and finally angle = inv tan ( opp/adj ) where inv tan has been applied to both sides.

Yep, taller and much wider than a 17" CRT (which are 16" visible). Slightly taller than a 19" CRT. Same height as 17" TFT.
