physics graphic card?

Don't bother, not enough games to warrant the hassle

My 9600gt is fine though, average 30 fps in mafia 2 with physx high, AA and everything max 1920x1200, batman AA plays smooth as silk physx on max

Was thinking only cheep. Its only to run physics.

I have seen ppl say 8800GTx or 9800?

Ahhh right. Just keep thinking im missing something. But if its loads of messing about might not bother.

Looks great in Batman though. And Dark Void. And Metro 2033. And Mafia 2.

The smoke and mist in batman really added, great use of physx and didnt kill the framerate. The papers on the floor were pretty poor.

Havent played dark void as it got panned, ran the demo though and didnt see anything exciting

Mafia 2 doesnt look substantially different with max physx to me and the framerate is crucified

Havent played metro 2033 much but I liked the smoke in the first beast room.

In summary nowhere near enough good stuff to warrant adding a second card or going Nvidia over ATI for IMHO

The problem is is that PhysX only adds the odd visual effect here and there. It does nothing to change the gameplay itself.

Physx described in one word....crap.

I wish people would diferentiate between the API and developers useage of it :P the API itself is pretty great, so far whats been crap is the implementation of it even by nVidias dev support teams :S as you rightly point out above the scripted "physics" used for most of the effects in mafia 2 are just laughable.

I had a spare 250 gts it was sitting idle and gathering dust so put it along side the 5970.work pretty good with 10.7 drivers with latest nvidia driver using 1.04f mod.batman looks brilliant with everything set to max with physx

It simply does not matter how good the API is when all its ever going to be used for is crap it may as well be crap.

Na wasnt going to go to the Green side. It was just to remove some load from the 59

What load? Tbh with PhysX on you'd see a performance hit unless you own a high-end GeForce to cope with it.

Only processors and core clocks count for PhysX, for a long time the best value PhysX card was 9600GSO with its 96 stream processors. Today's equivalent would be GT 240, roughly the same card.

PhysX effects are bad though, implementation is nearly non-existent and as pointed out above - laughable.

EDIT: just saw the 9600 GSO for £37 plus delivery on a popular auction site, I got mine for £30 a year ago or so (OEM version).
