yep got it in one there mate, i was thinking about getting a card just for Physx but the extra heat and power isn't worth it
8800GTX would be a very very bad idea.. just not worth the heat and power consumption for the visual increase you'd get.
If you really wanted to try it on the cheap I'd recommend a 8800GT or 8600GT (pretty sure that supports it) rather than GTX
not sure about the gt but the 8600gts didn't work the only thing it did do is raise my case, gpu and cpu temps
