It's possible to run games with PhysX on AMD GPUs, simply play as you would normally. All needed PhysX files will be downloaded with game files. As for APEX PhysX, you'll need an Nvidia graphics card.
Back in the day when I experimented with "hybrid" PhysX (5850+GT240) I needed drivers from both sides and some hacks that would make the whole thing work. Probably it's the same now.
nVIDIA will disable PhysX accelerated on GPU even if you have a nVIDIA one installed, if the driver detects an AMD card as a primary 3D render. If you choose to run it on an advanced level it will STILL run on you CPU and NOT on the AMD GPU, as everyone keeps making this mistake. Because optimization of the code regarding performance on CPU was never a strong point, on heavy effects/scene will run like a dog.
Bottom line, make your own inquiry over the web or perhaps someone can shed some light form he's own experience, preferable from these days.
I used to run a nVidia card alongside my AMD card and it worked awesome. Although when I moved over to win 8 I could not get the drivers to work as they did on win 7
