will a dedicated physx card, i.e an 8400gs or 8500gt work as a physx in a pci-e 1x slot or is a 4x or 8x slot needed?
any help is welcome

u need a x16 physical slot to fit the card. a x1 doesn't have this. x8 does and so does x4

bare minimum useful card is an 8600GT for physx processing and something like an 8800GS with 96 SPs or higher would be more useful (if you actually do anything thats physx heavy) also you really need atleast a 4x slot bandwidth minimum... 8x better.
